The Renault brand organised, on September 20, in Marrakech, an immersion trip around the 70s and the pop universe illustrating this era. This concept highlights R5, the star of the 70s and 80s, through a photo exhibition of the most emblematic models and key events marking the history of this iconic model over the past 50 years.
The exhibition took place at Jajjah, a colorful and fun art spot, in the image of its creator, the international artist Hassan Hajjaj, a pioneer of pop art in Morocco. There was a lot of emotion in the room at the time of the presentation (see video).
To continue celebrating R5’s 50th anniversary, Renault is launching a collaboration with two young content creators, Mohsine Hariss and Style Beldi, recognized for their pop style. The appointment is made before the end of the year to discover their video productions highlighting the electro pop spirit of the brand through the R5.

R5 has sold over 5.6 million copies in many countries including Morocco. It all started in 1967 with the 122 project, which had to take up the challenge of offering an original, affordable and robust car at the same time. This is how the Renault 5 was born, in two versions L and TL.
From its presentation, it marked a revolution thanks to its design and its finishes. The year of its launch, R5 ranks 2nd in sales in Europe.
In the continual search for renewal, Renault continues to innovate by expanding the range with: LS, TS, GTL, LE CAR, ALPINE, TURBO, CAMPUS, SUPERCINQ, SUPERCINQ Gt Turbo, etc…
In Morocco, R5 has had a great success story that has not been denied over the years, from L to SUPERCINQ. From 1973 to 1995, the SOMACA factory produced over 12,000 R5s for the local market.
The R5 was also the star of motor racing with the National Formula “Coupe Renault 5, Afriquia Elf, Good year” organized by the Royal Moroccan Federation of Automobile Sport in Casablanca in 1976. The National Formula was organized in 7 events all over Morocco.
Finally, remember that the Renault brand around the world has organized a series of celebrations throughout 2022, such as participation in the Monte Carlo Historic and the Salon Rétromobile, artistic collaborations with the illustrator Greg for the production of a series of works on the theme of Renault 5 as well as with the French designer Pierre Gonalons for the creation of the R5 Diamant, an ephemeral exhibition of the most emblematic models of R5 at the Flins factory.
